Brownfields Walkabouts

A Brownfields Walkabout is an event designed to help your community identify physical spaces that can be used to meet planning priorities. Local stakeholders and representatives from TAB meet in a targeted area of the community to clarify priorities and find redevelopment possibilities.

What Happens in a Brownfields Walkabout
First, stakeholders identify local priorities, either from existing plans or a new brainstorm facilitated by TAB staff on site. Armed with this information, the scavenger hunt begins - stakeholders hit the streets to explore brownfields and vacant spaces that might be a good fit for the priorities identified. Sites are logged on a mapping app to kickstart a brownfields inventory along the way. After the walking tour concludes, additional visioning or planning discussions may get started, depending on time and stakeholder availability.

Following the Brownfields Walkabout, Mid-Atlantic TAB provides a Walkabout Report, detailing discussions and opportunities as well as recommended brownfield activities, potential next steps, and resources.
